Eric Berry always seems to be proving why he is the consummate winner, which actually has very little to do with winning.

The former Tennessee defensive back showed that again this week as he returned to Knoxville to do one of the things he does best: raise money for charity. He’s also a pretty good football player, but let’s start with his charitable works.

Berry and his father, former Volunteers running back James Berry, participated in a barbecue contest Wednesday to raise money for the L5 Cheap Jerseys Foundation and Eric Berry Foundation. Both organizations support families who are facing cancer diagnosis.

Understandably, that’s been a calling for the Berry family after Eric was diagnosed with lymphoma in 2014 and missed nearly an entire season with the Kansas City Chiefs. However, that’s just the latest example of how proud the Tennessee family should be of Berry.

Well before his cancer diagnosis, Berry was heavily involved in building parks and playgrounds in his hometown of Fairburn, Georgia and his Cheap nfl Jerseys adopted home in Kansas City. Berry saw sports as a way out of a bad neighborhood. He also saw simply playing as a way to keep kids out of trouble, which happens frequently in his hometown.

Had Berry not been the man he is, he might not have been remembered as fondly as he is and should be. During his time at Tennessee, the Vols were just 22-11 and Berry was on hand to witness a Tennessee legend, Phillip Fulmer, fired before his junior season. Then, Berry left early for the NFL. Based on the early departure and lack of team success, Berry could have been forgettable. No chance.

Despite the losses and turmoil, Berry won SEC Defensive Player of the Year in 2008 and the Jim Thorpe Award as the nation’s top defensive back in 2009. During those two seasons, he also was a two-time first-team All-SEC selection and unanimous first-team All-American. However, all the accolades aren’t why I’ll remember Berry so fondly. I’ll remember him for his incredible professionalism.

Whether he liked it or not, Berry was the face of that 2008 season in which the Vols went 5-7. It wasn’t what Berry was used to. Berry Customized Jerseys was used to winning. He was the starting quarterback and cornerback at Fairburn High School, which was one of the best teams in the Atlanta area during his time there. He set school records in the long jump and 200-meter dash and was named a U.S. Army All-American. He came to Knoxville and was used to success. He expected it in college, but the timing just wasn’t right.

Fate didn’t deter Berry from properly representing the Vols during the hard times. He was always available for interviews in that infamous 2008 season as reporters struggled for new ways to ask questions like, “What’s wrong with this team?” and “How do you fix it?” It was clear Berry was frustrated, but he never let it affect how he handled the barrage of questions. He faced that Kansas City Chiefs Jerseys challenge, not knowing there were greater ones to come.
