Adam Gase not only knows Jay Cutler but enjoyed a modicum of success coaching him as the Bears offensive coordinator in 2015. Gase coaxed efficiency out of a gunslinger unlike so many mismatched predecessors who were Cutler’s play-callers. Cutler respected Gase and the easy rapport between the two carried over from weekdays to Sundays. Whether it was a shared sense of humor or insight into offenses, they clicked as Cutler posted the best passer rating and second-best interception rate of his 11-year career.
So with the Dolphins potentially searching for a veteran quarterback after Thursday’s serious knee injury to starter Ryan Tannehill, speculation naturally surrounds Cutler, now a Fox Sports analyst. Whether Tannehill misses six to eight weeks or the entire Chicago Bears Jerseys season, as some reports suggest, the Dolphins need to address the most important position on the field one month before the season-opener. Desperate times call for desperate measures, such as considering a recently retired quarterback who spent his offseason working on a different type of delivery for his new career.
The football reasons make sense for Gase to make contact Cutler, as already reported. Week 1 remains 37 days away, plenty of time for Cutler to learn the offense, get his body into NFL shape — he’s a quarterback, not a running back — and develop some sort of chemistry with Dolphins receivers. And Cutler is 34, not 44. Chances are the guy with 139 NFL starts still can play.
ESPN reported Cutler would be interested in ending his retirement for a chance to start, if the money is right, and nobody really should be surprised. The itch is hard to ignore for accomplished thirty-something pro athletes, even ones who had convinced Cheap Jerseys
themselves and told confidants they were done as Cutler did. Remember, the NFL retired Cutler more than Cutler retired from the NFL. The TV gig happened more accidentally than by design. His departure from the Bears had more to do with Cutler fatigue at Halas Hall than any Cutler decline on the field. If he checked into Bourbonnais today, he easily would be the Bears quarterback that gave them the best chance to win a game, flaws and all. Granted, that bar isn’t a high one.
With $16 million below the salary cap, the Dolphins likely could fit Cutler onto the payroll. With the torn labrum that limited Cutler to five games last year presumably healed, the Dolphins would be getting a refreshed Cutler who might be rejuvenated by joining a playoff team.
Quarterbacks the Miami Dolphins could add if Ryan Tannehill has to miss time

Dolphins backup Matt Moore, a year younger than Cutler, went 2-1 last season after Tannehill went down with a partial ACL tear in Cheap nfl Jerseys December. Moore started the playoff game against the Steelers and showed toughness after taking a blow to the head. His 105.6 passer rating and 8-to-3 touchdown pass-to-interception ratio in relief duty offers Gase a safe alternative if he opts to take the conservative approach in replacing Tannehill. But Moore has been mostly a backup for 10 NFL seasons for a reason.
“Right now, Matt is our quarterback,” Gase told the NFL Network on Friday morning. “We’ll see where we go from there because I have to figure out what’s going on with Ryan.”
Questions remain. But a good chance exists the Dolphins won’t like the answer.
The possibility of Colin Kaepernick as an option will create conversation, especially if the Dolphins choose Cutler over the former 49ers quarterback. That’s understandable given the way other NFL teams have signed backup quarterbacks much less accomplished or athletic than Kaepernick, whose social activism unquestionably has interfered with his ability to land an NFL job. The latest Customized Jerseys example with the Ravens polling fans on Kaepernick only underscored what must be a growing concern for the league. But Gase’s familiarity and recent history with Cutler factors in more significantly than any controversy around Kaepernick in evaluating the Dolphins situation.
All Gase will care about if Tannehill is lost for considerable time is finding the quarterback most capable of executing his offense — and one who just did that in 2015 happens to be available.
